NYU Winthrop Hospital Names Brian F. Gilchrist, MD, FACS, Chief of Pediatric Surgery

Mineola, NY — NYU Winthrop Hospital is pleased to announce that Brooklyn resident, Brian F. Gilchrist, MD, FACS, has been named Chief of Pediatric Surgery.

Dr. Gilchrist brings with him more than 20 years of experience performing general and highly specialized pediatric surgery. He is Board Certified in Surgery with an additional Special Competence in Pediatric Surgery. Dr. Gilchrist is among the most skilled of pediatric surgeons with a wide area of knowledge and specialized expertise, including in transplan­tation surgery. His range of capabilities extends to treating pediatric conditions ranging from gastrointestinal tract and abdominal wall diseases to various pediatric thoracic and neck conditions, and much more.

Dr. Gilchrist is a graduate of Tufts Medical School. He completed his residency at Brown University/Hasbro Children’s Hospital. In addition, Dr. Gilchrist completed a Fellowship in Pediatric Surgery at St. Jude's Children's Hospital as well as a Transplantation Fellowship at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Gilchrist headed the Boston Floating Hospital for Children, a full-service pediatric hospital servicing newborn infants to young adults, and served as a combat surgeon with the 311th Evacuation Hospital during the Persian Gulf War. He comes to NYU Winthrop from Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center, where he most recently served as Chairman of Surgery.

In addition to the outstanding pediatric surgical services he provides, Dr. Gilchrist is committed to working with medical students, residents, and fellows in both an advisor and hands-on teaching capacity to enhance learning experiences.
